Empowering Youth Through Creativity and Learning
Since 2015, I have been developing Learning Through A Lens, a cross-disciplinary program that blends photography, creative writing, and hands-on creative projects to help young people explore themselves and the world around them. Over the years, I’ve refined the curriculum to focus on 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, reflection, and emotional awareness. These skills support both academic growth and personal confidence.
Coming Soon: Free Downloadable Curriculum
After nearly a decade of teaching and refinement, the full curriculum will soon be available for free download. Parents, educators, and youth organizations anywhere will be able to bring creativity, self-discovery, and project-based learning to students in their communities. Rather than focusing solely on technical mastery or traditional art training, these classes use creative expression as a tool for self-discovery. Students work on visual and written projects that explore essential human themes such as communication, emotional reflection, relationship-building, and self-awareness. Along the way, they develop important academic and life skills, including writing, analysis, observation, and thoughtful communication.
Courses are tailored to each age group:
Ages 10–12: Students begin with engaging, exploratory courses such as The Art of Photography: A Hands-On Creative Journey into Visual Storytelling.
Ages 13–15: Students deepen their critical thinking and photographic technique in Visual Literacy Through Photography.
Ages 16–18: Older students tackle advanced projects in Self-Discovery Through Photography & Creative Writing.
By blending storytelling with visual thinking, Learning Through A Lens empowers students to build confidence, recognize their own perspectives, and better understand others. It is a space for learning that is both expressive and reflective, helping young people grow into more empathetic, self-aware, and engaged thinkers.
Why Learning Through A Lens Is Different
This program is about learning through creation, seeing, writing, reflecting, and connecting. Students engage deeply with ideas and experiences, building confidence, empathy, and creative insight along the way. The curriculum is flexible and can be used in schools, youth groups, community centers, or at home.
Growing Beyond Borders
Learning Through A Lens is expanding internationally, with plans to bring the program to Ghana in 2026. This next phase reflects a commitment to cultural exchange, global learning, and making creative education accessible across communities and contexts. Support from donors and partner institutions directly helps make this expansion possible. Donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law through Fractured Atlas, our fiscal sponsor.
