This hands-on class invites teens to go beyond snapshots and explore photography as a powerful storytelling tool. Students will learn how to combine technical skills with creative vision to create images that carry meaning and emotion. Through guided projects, they’ll practice using composition, perspective, and sequencing to craft visual narratives that reflect both their own lives and the world around them. Along the way, students strengthen their ability to communicate ideas, emotions, and stories through the lens.
What Makes This Course Different?
Storytelling First: Instead of focusing only on “how to take a picture,” this course teaches students how to use photography to express ideas and narratives with impact.
Exploring Perspectives: Teens will learn to see beyond the surface, capturing stories hidden in everyday spaces, people, and objects.

Most photography classes for teens emphasize either technical mastery or casual picture-taking. This course blends the two—giving students the tools to create meaningful visual stories that resonate. LOCATION
Instruction will be provided through the Zoom platform. Students should have a webcam and the ability to download zoom on their computer, phone, or tablet. Once you register for the class, you will be sent an e-mail with the Zoom URL to log in to the class.
CUSTOM SCHEDULING

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
Visual Composition with Purpose: Go beyond taking “nice pictures” and learn how to frame, angle, and use light intentionally to create images that communicate meaning.
Developing Themes & Narratives: Explore themes such as identity, community, and environment, and learn how to weave them into compelling visual stories.
Storytelling Through Photography: Discover how a sequence of images can carry emotion, build tension, and guide a viewer through a narrative.
Creative Projects: Work on photo essays and storytelling assignments that challenge you to think critically, experiment with perspective, and refine your artistic voice.

This class is designed for teens ages 13–15 who are eager to move beyond snapshots and use photography as a tool for expression. Whether you use a smartphone or a DSLR, this course helps you find your perspective and begin building a portfolio that reflects your vision.
COURSE FORMAT:
Photography & Visual Storytelling is a live online class that blends instruction with hands-on practice. Each session includes guided lessons, photo challenges, group discussion, and opportunities to share work for feedback. Students engage collaboratively while also developing their individual storytelling style.
